HWSETA Sits For The 6th EISA

The HWSETA has conducted its sixth External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA) on 18 October 2019. Nationally, 444 candidates wrote the examination for the Health Promotion Officer. Since 2016, xxx learners have successfully completed the Health Promotion Officer external assessment.

In May 2019, 84 learners sat for the first Social Auxillary worker EISA.

The EISA is a single national assessment leading to the awarding of an Occupational Certificate. EISA ensures that the assessment of occupational qualifications, part qualifications and trades is standardised, consistent and credible.
The HWSETA is the only SETA to have completed the sitting of six EISAs and has been asked to assist other SETAs with the roll of the assessment.

“The HWSETA has been charting new territory, and we have excelled beyond our expectations. These achievements to date would not have been possible without the senior, head office and provincial management and staff support, most importantly the commitment from Nomsa Mdunana and Kanyisa Wopula has ensured us of our successes thus far. This achievement can definitely be added to HWSETA’s string of accomplishments to date.” said Champa Gopal, Qualification Development and Maintenance manager.

    Good day.
My question really is, Why is the pass mark for the exam so high, from my understanding even universities pass mark is 50%, yet EISA is 60%.

      16th March 2026 reply

      Dear Bukelani

Please note below for your attention.
The minimum 60% competency rate for Social Auxiliary Worker EISA assessment
•The decision to make the competency rate 60% was agreed with the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who developed the blueprint, Qualification Assessment Specifications (QAS). The QAS document is a is a critical document that outlines the assessment strategy, tools, and methods for a specific occupational qualification, ensuring national standards, validity, and reliability, and it is developed during the curriculum design phase to guide how learners are assessed.
•The QAS was also approved by the South African Council for Social Services Professions (SACSSP). The decision to lower the 60% competency rate can only be revoked by the SACSSP and the collaborating stakeholders.
The intention for the 60% competency rate is to maintain the professionalism of the qualification, and to ensure that competent learners have gained sufficient knowledge skills and workplace exposure to perform in the workplace when the secure employment.
